I’m known on my social media platforms as the ‘Disabled Adventurer’ who creates video content to, raise awareness of the accessibility obstacles experienced by society and empowering people to be more active, through the sharing of activities I try, places I visit and adventures I go on.
I am driven by my own ‘lived experiences’ as an, Army Veteran, Survivor of Suicide and becoming Disabled due to a spinal condition, chronic illness and PTSD, to better inform society, create change and help others, specifically within accessibility and suicide prevention.
The accessibility videos I’ve been creating for the past year have become increasingly popular since the beginning of 2024, with several going viral and as a result amassing millions of views. This has led to my collaborating with organisations such as, National trust, Canals and Rivers Trust, The Park Trust and National Trails UK, where I’ve been showing them the effectiveness of sharing their accessibility information in a more engaging, exciting and fun way.
My video content has also resulted in the media reporting on the “Have A Go” videos I create, which shows my “having a go” at a wide variety of activities available to people with disabilities of all ages including; Archery, Virtual Reality, Shooting, Powerchair Football, Foot Golf, Fishing, Axe Throwing, Swimming, Wheels and Wheelchairs, Wheelchair Rugby and Basketball.
Over the past few months I’ve been calling for a local housing developer and the councils planning department to make amendments to a new estate with several accessibility issues. Thanks to the videos about it achieving hundreds of thousands of views, in June ’24, both the council and developers agreed to make amendments, resulting in removal of steps, new paths, new drop curbs, more accessible picnic benches with hardstanding around them and specific play equipment for children with disabilities.
Most recently, on Friday 12th July ’24 as an “Adventurer”, I attempted a solo ascent of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in an extreme all-terrain power mobility chair prototype, called RockClimber, and successfully made it completely unaided, becoming the very first person with disabilities to do so.
