I am an activist at heart whether it’s neurodiversity, disability, race, caste, gender, gender identity or any other marginalisations and intersectionality of these identities. However, realising quite late in my life that I am neurodivergent (AuDHD) had a big impact on what I did in the last 12-18 months. I became vocal about the struggles faced by disabled folks, especially about the barriers they face at work,
I did this through
a) my role of Co-chair of Able2 Network, a disability ERG at EE/BT, representing the interests of over 7k disabled colleagues across the world
b) my role in the trade union as Equalities Rep
c) social media.
Some of the key changes I played a key role at BT are:
1) BT group publishing its disability pay gap reporting, the first tech/telco to do it in the UK,
2) Scorecard changes to manager’s bonus, where they are targeted on representation and inclusion scores
3) Community building through lean in sessions with senior leader including our CEO, CTO and Chief DEI officers
4) Creating champions at over 15 locations
5) Creating and delivering Accessibility training for marketing teams across EE including products, propositions and marketing (happy to work and deliver this outside BT)
I’ve collaborated and contributed to various discussions about Neurodiversity and Disability, especially about the need to move away from Eurocentricity. I write and create content on my socials on these topics. I am a human rights activist outside work.
We live in a world that is made with very few of us in mind, my goal is to try and change this.
