Andy Gilbert
Company Founder and Executive Producer, Gilbey Films Limited
Andy spent 16 years in the TV industry, working for BBC Sport at major events such as the World Cup and Olympic Games, and directing iconic programmes like Grandstand and Football Focus. Andy decided to leave his much-loved role as Series Producer of Match of the Day in January 2012 to set up his own company, Gilbey Films.
A former Paralympic swimmer and medallist, Andy took time out to work on Channel 4’s 2012 Paralympic Games coverage, directing the peak-time show with Clare Balding and Ade Adepitan.
Originally Gilbey Films focused on producing professional access films for venues and attractions, giving disabled customers honest insight into the facilities and how to get the best out of their visit. The company expanded into producing high-quality, disability-focused training films, with plans to move into the recruitment area.
Andy has a real passion for short-form content as he believes it is the most effective, creative form of communication. Working in broadcasting has given him incredible experience and the opportunity to develop his skills.
With so many barriers, it’s incredibly hard for disabled people to break into the broadcast industry – something Andy knows only too well. Consequently, he works with and supports new, as well as existing, disabled talent both on camera and behind the scenes.
Gilbey Films is now an established company with a fantastic list of clients including the Houses of Parliament, ZSL London Zoo, Transport for London, NHS, BBC, WDAD Communications, AccessAble and CAFE (Centre for Access to Football in Europe). Andy was a winner at the Stelios Disabled Entrepreneur Awards 2015.
