Asif Iqbal MBE
President of the Harrow and Brent United Deaf Club
Asif is deaf and has spent his career in the public and not-for-profit sectors, with local and central government, along with health services to increase representation and remove barriers for deaf and disabled people. Asif is known for his work as President of the Harrow and Brent United Deaf Club since 2009.
He was Chair of Camden Disability Network where he secured support from the senior leadership team on the first-ever Disability Charter, Wellbeing Passport, and was involved in Disability History Month. Additionally, Asif is an Executive Member of the Camden Black Workers Group.
He is a Public appointment Ambassador for the Government Equalities Office and has sat on several advisory boards for Government bodies. Notably, he sits on the British Sign Language Board, Cabinet Office. Asif was one of the Shaw Trust Disability Power List 100 in both 2018 and 2021 and one of the top Disability News 10 most influential disabled people list for public service. In 2011, he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for public service.
