Asif is Deaf, BSL User and has spent his career in the public and not for profit sectors, with local and central government, along with health services to increase representation and remove barriers for deaf and disabled people. Asif is known for his work as President of the Harrow and Brent United Deaf Club since 2009. Asif was the key driver behind Brent Council signing up to BSL Charter, enabling deaf people have BSL access to Council Service. Asif is Chair of Camden Disability Network where he secured support from the senior leadership team on the first ever Disability Charter and was involved in Disability History Month.

Asif is an Ambassador for the Government Equalities Office and sat on several advisory boards for Government bodies.

In addition, he is also a Chair of Hearing Loss Professionals UK Network, sharing knowledge and expertise with NHS England and key stakeholders. Asif also appeared on various TV shows including BBC2’s iMPOSSIBLE; LetterBox and Channel 4 Political Slot.

Asif has received many honours and awards including being named of Harrow Council Role Model 2018. In the same year he was included in the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100. He was highly commended for inspirational role model of the year at the European Diversity Award (2013), Muslim News Award for Excellence (2013), Asian Lite Business Award (2013), GG2 Leadership Award (2013), highly commendation for Positive Role Model Award for Race, Faith and Religion at the National Diversity Awards. Asif was awarded MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2011 for public service.
