Dr Clare Halliday

Senior Scientist at Charles River Laboratories

Science and Engineering

My curiosity for Biology started at the age of 15. I achieved 2:1 Biomedical Science degree at the University of Southampton, MSc in Medical Diagnostics before embarking a career in microbiology for 5 years.  I returned to academia to study for a PhD in molecular and cellular biology of Leishmania mexicana parasites, which was completed in 2021, after 3.5 years of study.

My biggest achievement to date is being the first author in 4 of 6 journal papers, with another currently in progress to publication. I’ve been in the Cell and Gene Therapy industry for 2 years and I now work as a senior scientist at Charles River Laboratories.

As a profoundly deaf person, my achievements were endured with plenty of hurdles along the way. Determination and a sense of enjoyment, alongside understanding amongst peers sustained these challenges. Outside of Biology, I adore food, wine, travel, walks and all dogs, big and small.

“Short term will-power pays off in the long term.”
