Euan’s Guide

background element

Euan’s Guide is a disabled access charity, making it easier for disabled people to find great places to go. At the heart of the charity is EuansGuide.com where disabled people, their family, friends and carers can find and share reviews on the accessibility of places around the UK and beyond. It’s an invaluable tool for everything, from planning somewhere to take the kids at the weekend to picking a last-minute place for lunch.

We all want to get out there and enjoy life and having good quality disabled access information inspires confidence and removes fear of the unknown. With good accessibility information being so hard to find, one review is often enough to encourage others to visit. Reviews are also sent to venue owners, which can be a positive and powerful opportunity for education and change.

Euan’s Guide has become so much more than a website with our work including our lifesaving Red Cord Cards, our Ambassador Network and our Access Survey, the UK’s largest and longest running.

The charity was founded in 2013 by Euan MacDonald MBE, a powerchair user and his sister Kiki after Euan was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and a lack of disabled access made daily experiences stressful. By breaking down the barriers of exclusion with the help of other people in the same situation, Euan’s Guide hopes to make the world more accessible one review at a time.

We are delighted to be spotlighted as an organisation striving for change and breaking down barriers in society. While the previous year or so has been unique, we have certainly risen to the challenges and learned to adapt.

COVID-19 has and continues to have a significant impact on our community and us as an organisation. We have used technology to develop new resources including an online forum to give disabled people a safe virtual space, ran surveys to share our community’s concerns, initiated our Voices of COVID series and replaced our in-person events with virtual events and activities. The added pressures of COVID-19 mean Euan’s Guide is a tool at its most powerful for disabled people to find great places to go and plan their day.”
